Project Greenspace

It has long been the wish of Montessori families to work on a comprehensive design and master plan for the future development of the outdoor environment at Montessori Children's School. The “Project Greenspace” is long-term exploration of the re-design of existing play spaces and an outline of the development of an expanded school.

Preliminary Site Layout

We invite community participation as we work with Dr. Robin Moore and the National Learning Initiative to create that strategic plan. The school has also been adopted by Marines with Camp Lejeune’s Headquarters and Support Battalion and Marines with the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training which adds a dimension to possibility of the needed work effort that will be needed to facilitate the implementation of our “Project Greenspace”.

The school’s aim is to create a design program and schematic masterplan containing outdoor settings reflecting the educational philosophy of the Montessori Children’s School. Our school is collaborating with the renowned North Carolina State University Professor, Robin Moore and The Natural Learning Initiative, to fulfill our dream.

Project Greenspace’s objectives:

Enhance the quality of the outdoor environments for the children attending our school.
Expand playing and learning opportunities to support children’s healthy development in the outdoors in accordance with the institutional educational philosophy and curriculum of our school.
Create a design program and phased masterplan that responds to the needs of the school and related stakeholders with whom the school wishes to collaborate in the future.
Propose setting designs that comply with safety requirements pertaining to outdoor play equipment as appropriate.
