All Montessori Parents are invited to attend.
Childcare is available for any registered student.
Donations gladly accepted for PTO supported childcare costs.
Please sign-up in the front office by Wednesdays before meetings.

Volunteer Hours

Parents are required to serve 30 volunteer hours each school year. Here is a list of possible ways to serve volunteer hours.

Maintenance of Building

Ø      Electrical

Ø      Plumbing

Ø      Change HVAC filters (monthly)

Ø      Replace classroom and office light bulbs

Ø      Replace outdoor lighting and exit lights monthly

Ø      Carpentry/sanding/refinishing shelving in classrooms

Ø      Washing windows inside and outside

Ø      Painting

 

Outdoor Environment

Ø      Landscape (planning, weeding, etc.)

Ø      Building or maintaining playground equipment after monthly inspections

Ø      Spreading mulch

 

School Historian/Resource Librarian/Organizer

Ø      Develop film for Directresses/Download photos/Print off Computer

Ø      Entering library books in computer system

Ø      Portable project developed by Directress

Ø      Organize photography, newspaper clippings, classroom news, etc. into history of the year book.

Ø      Create a memory book/scrape book of school events (e.g. International Night)

 

Classroom/MISC opportunities

Ø      Supply snake for classroom

Ø      Attend Board of Directors Meetings

Ø      Making trips to the resource center at the library

Ø      Doing lunch laundry once a week for your child’s class

Ø      Assist the directress with cooking in the classroom

Ø      Make telephone calls for Directresses

Ø      Making play-dough with recipe provided

Ø      Attending PTO meetings

Ø      Making particular materials as needed by the directress (i.e. sewing, laminating, trimming)

Ø      Checking out library books requested by directress to support a theme in the classroom

Ø      Play a musical instrument or do a presentation about the instrument in the classroom

 

Committee Participation

Ø      Serve as Board of Director member

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ABOUT VOLUNTEER HOURS

 

1.  How many volunteer hours do I need?

The current requirement is 30 hours per child with a maximum of 60 hours per family each school year.

 

2. What happens if my child attends for only half of the school year?

 A prorated amount of hours will be required for children attending only half of the school year. (For example: 1 child would need 15 volunteer hours)

 

3. What can I do for volunteer hours?

There are endless opportunities to meet your volunteer hours. Please refer

to the attached sheet “Possibilities for Volunteer Hours” for ideas that will best suityou and your family.

        **Please note that bringing snack for your child’s classroom can be counted toward your volunteer hours. Save your receipts and record the amount spent as described below in question #4.

 

4. Where do I record my volunteer hours?

The volunteer log book is located on the PTO shelf.  There is a sheet prepared with your child(ren)’s name on it in the log book. Find your sheet and record the date, the task, who completed it, and the number of hours (or amount spent) in the appropriate columns.  Write your name on any receipts and put them in the sleeve labeled with your child’s name (located behind each volunteer log).

**Please remember that it is our responsibility as parents to keep an accurate record of our volunteer hours.

 

5.  Can I carry over hours from year to year?

 Excess hours can be carried over to the next school year.  It will be each family’s

 responsibility to keep an accurate record of any time or money spent. (Keep you receipts!)

       ** Arrangements can be made in advance to complete projects during summer also

 

6. What happens if I am unable to complete my hours?

A fee of $10.00 per hour will be assessed at the end of the school year for any outstanding volunteer hours.
