The relationship between staff and parents is essential
to the success and strength of the school.
Staff
The dedicated directresses have decades of Montessori experience and are guided by a school directress with over 30
years experience.
In the Toddler, Primary, and Elementary classrooms we have directresses who
have Montessori certification. The classrooms are well-equipped with Montessori
materials.
The Montessori philosophy is reflected in the actions of the adults.
They treat each other the way they treat the child.
A culturally diverse, inclusive
attitude creates a respectful, collaborative culture that is essential to our mission and vision. Each
environment has at least one directress who has formal Montessori training. This
makes for a keen awareness of the specific needs and characteristics of the children in each classroom and understanding of
the strategies and materials needed to respond with success to those needs and characteristics.
Years of general experience, rigorous training and at-level Montessori
certification, experience at MSC or in a similar school, longevity in previous positions, and uncompromising devotion to the
children are all criteria you appointment to the MCS faculty.
Parents
The parents are an informed and active body. They are recognized as the primary educators of the child. The Board of Directors, Parent Teacher Organization and Volunteers help provide a quality school.
As educators of the child we encourage parents to observe
their child's classroom and other classrooms in the school. These visits help parents learn more about their child, our classroom
environments, and the Montessori experience. All parents are asked to attend all orientation and information sessions and
thus become better acquainted with philosophy and practice of Montessori education, as well as the practices in their child's
classroom.
In addition to parent education meetings held during the year, special parent-child evenings are held
toward the end of each School year. They provide an opportunity for the students to share their School and the activities
they do during the normal School day with their families. As it is an important time for both parents and children, we urge
parent participation.
MCS Board of Directors
Mission Statement:
The Montessori Children's School provides strategic non-operational leadership in the support of the school’s
mission. The board makes long-term decisions, provides financial management and
retains a strong school leader to ensure an excellent Montessori education for current and future Montessori Children's School
students.
Montessori Children's School is governed by an unpaid self-perpetuating Board of Directors of between 5 and 15 members.
Their mission is by definition, to preserve and protect the long term health and well-being of the institution. The board is not involved in the day-to-day running of school operations. The sole employee of the Board
of Directors is the School Directress/Director Head of School who is engaged in the day-to-day operation of the School,
to be its educational leader, and to carry out Board Policy.
Montessori Children's School’s decision-making structure is
not hierarchical but highly collaborative, with the Head of School acting simultaneously
as conductor, gardener, and helmsman to bring out the very best in the group. Collaborative problem solving is employed across
the school, with Faculty and staff broadly involved in decisions regarding program. Institutionally, instructionally, and
internally the Head of School and her goals and objectives are set and informed by both the Board's Strategic Plan and the
Principles of the Montessori Method.
PTO
Purpose:
The MCS Parent Teacher Organization is to establish a close relationship between home and school by advancing
opportunity for all parents to become involved in the MCS community. The MCS PTO will sponsor assistance to teachers in the
classroom setting, raise funds for supplemental education materials and experiences for students and teachers, and support
school and family social interaction with the goal of creating the best possible learning environment for our children.
Membership:
Membership in the MCS PTO is voluntary and open to all parents of currently enrolled students, teachers
and staff members at the school. Membership is tracked in an effort to stabilize participation and add validity to decisions
and recommendations made by the MCS PTO. There are no annual membership dues.
